Kurnell sits on the southern side of Botany Bay, with Silver Beach and the sheltered bay-side flats on one side and the ocean rock ledges of the national park on the other. That mix gives land-based anglers salmon, tailor, bream and drummer off the stones, plus whiting, flathead and mulloway over the bay-side sand.
Off the ocean rocks, salmon and tailor come on through the change of light, with bream and drummer in the washes on a bit of swell: fish a rising tide into dark for the best of it, and take care on the ledges in any size. On the bay side at Silver Beach, mulloway and flathead work the sand and the channel edges on a running tide, best after dark around the bigger new and full moon tides.
