Fishing Botany Bay from the shore

Botany Bay is a big, varied system: the Georges River flats and drop-offs in the west, the breakwalls and deep water near the entrance, and plenty of land-based access around its edges. Shore anglers here chase mulloway, bream, dusky flathead, whiting and kingfish that follow bait in through the heads.

When mulloway fire at Botany Bay

Botany Bay mulloway follow the same rule as anywhere: moving water first, darkness second. The deeper holes and the edges near the entrance and the river mouth hold fish, and they feed best on a strong tide around new and full moon, worked at night through the change of light. Fresh squid and live baits on a running tide are the mainstay. Bream and flathead cover the daylight and the slower tides over the flats.
